北京大学校园艺术长廊从2012年开始筹办，由教务长办公室与艺术学院共同发起，邀请威尼斯双年展策展人、艺术学院副院长彭锋担任总策划。通过选取有代表性的艺术作品在教学空间进行展览，利用公共空间进行艺术的创意和策划，让学生们能够在不经意间接触真正的艺术品，感受艺术的魅力。

在北京大学第二教学楼一楼大厅悬挂着一幅非常震撼的巨作《天下未名》。这幅巨作是北京大学特邀当代著名油画家李华琪进行创作。《天下未名》（4米X6米）是李华琪继水立方收藏的《百年奥运，圆梦中华》（3米X8米）后又一巨幅力作。这幅作品从构思立意到创作完成历时半年，期间得到了北大艺术学院副院长彭锋教授和北大的各方领导的大力支持。北大艺术学院院长王一川教授在院毕业典礼上多次引用并点评了该作品以独特而巧妙的视角俯瞰校园，展现了北大校园恢弘的气势，同时也表现了百年燕园学子宁静而高远的精神追求。
